I work in research and to assume that Obama’s supporters are that much more likely to not turn out is very very strange. When looking at excitement and enthusiasm in this election, Obama is killing McBush and when you add third party candidates into the mix, you see that by Obama picking up another 3% from people leaving McCain for Nader or Barr.

These types of bad polls are used to discourage one candidate’s supporters and give the other candidate’s supporters hope. And why would they do that you ask? Because the USA Today is involved and they can’t sell papers when everyone knows Obama is going to win, so they make it a close race.

But he was just joking, he wouldn’t, would he?

That was just wishful thinking, but he’s never talked about attacking, has he?

Now you might say that Obama’s position is fairly similar, aside from using diplomacy instead of force.  And who can you trust to mislead the country into an unnecessary war?  Yup, John “More Wars” McCain.

But it leaves out this:

The insurgents in the country are fighting for two things: political power and to make the US leave. No matter how large our surge is, they will still want those two things, so we have placed ourselves into a situation where there is no winning or losing. We have no enemies there. We just want to keep our influence on their political system and oil supplies.

The surge may help reduce violence, but will never make Iraq have WMD, will never expose any Iraq-Al Qaeda ties, will never bring back our 5,000 troops, will never bring back our $1 trillion, will never revive the 1 million dead Iraqis, will never reduce our debt, will never strengthen our dollar, will never rebuild our moral standing in the world and will never convince me that this war was a good idea.

Anyway, back to the right moving to the left.  That was just the first sign, but this election we are seeing even more shifting from the party.  They originally criticized Obama for saying he’d go after Bin Laden if they had actionable intelligence in Pakistan, and then the CIA did attack senior Al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan with an unmanned drone.

Then they criticize Obama for saying that he’d negotiate with Iran.  Bush said it was similar to appeasing the Nazis.  But now he is sending people to negotiate.

McCain and Bush also said that setting a timetable for withdraw would embolden our enemies and give them a target date to pick up terrorist activities again.  But now McCain said he would withdrawl almost all combat troops by 2013 (the start of his never-to-be second term).  So much for emboldening our enemies.

And let’s not forget that everyone seems to be getting on the Green bandwagon.

So, while it pisses me off that they begin to change their views in actions, but not words, right before the election, I am still happy that they are moving to the left.

If that were the case, then Bin Laden would be sending people of the equivalence of special forces and CIA – not enough to actually fight the Americans, but enough to spark violence and a rebellion to the occupying forces, the US.

So for Petraeus to say that the focus is off Iraq and back on Afghanistan is misleading. The Al Qaida leadership has always been in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Only we took the focus of them and they decided to help drain our resources in Iraq and make us pay for that stupid decision.

1) Green transportation (public transportation, carpooling, scooter, motorcycle, hybrid, EV, bio, walk or bike)
2) LED Lighting
3) Energy efficient appliances
4) Unplugging unused appliances
5) Using natural resources around you for energy (solar, geothermal, wind, motion, water)
6) Recycling as much as possible (sometimes you can get paid to recycle too)
7) Compost
Grow your own herbs and vegetables
9) Use cloth towels instead of paper towels
10) Use as little disposable goods as possible
