I haven’t even seen evidence that a half dozen Al Qaida in Iraq members even had ties to Al Qaida prior to the invasion of Iraq. I believe that Bin Laden is using the people of Iraq against us like we used Bin Laden, Al Qaida and the Taliban against the Russians in Afghanistan in the 80s.
If that were the case, then Bin Laden would be sending people of the equivalence of special forces and CIA – not enough to actually fight the Americans, but enough to spark violence and a rebellion to the occupying forces, the US.
So for Petraeus to say that the focus is off Iraq and back on Afghanistan is misleading. The Al Qaida leadership has always been in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Only we took the focus of them and they decided to help drain our resources in Iraq and make us pay for that stupid decision.
